Dr. Scott Sparrow is a particular counselor/therapist whose work I have followed
for several decades. He’s genuine. He’s good at what he does. He’s
the kind of person I can recommend without hesitation to near-death experiencers,
whether adult or child/teenager, and to anyone else dealing with transformational
issues or spiritual ones. His particular techniques, that which sets him apart
from others, are teachable. That means that if you are a professional and wish
to learn methods that really work with experiencers, contact him. Because there
are so few professionals in this country or in other countries who really know
how to work with near-death experiencers and those like them, what Dr. Sparrow
has to offer is not only unique but crucial to our understanding of spirit
and soul and the inner life. Here is what he has to say about himself and his
focus in the mentorship process.
“ I have been involved in daily spiritual practice and personal dream analysis
for over 35 years. My books (Healing the Fisher King, Andrew's Quest for the
Perfect Gift, Sacred Encounters with Jesus, Sacred Encounters with Mary, I
Am with You Always, Blessed Among Women, and Lucid Dreaming: Dawning of the Clear
Light) have been concerned with the direct experience with God, and ways that
we may open ourselves to this most sacred relationship. In the past decade,
I
have felt called to serve as an inner life mentor for individuals who yearn
for a deeper, more direct relationship with the Divine.
“While I was raised Christian, I am
familiar and comfortable with many of the contemplative spiritual traditions,
believing that while the forms may
differ, the central truths are one and the same. I am a student of Jungian
psychology, and have studied Buddhism and Hinduism alongside contemplative Christianity.
I have also researched the current perspectives on mentoring in the Christian
tradition, and endeavor to abide by this rich and evolving tradition.
“ I
am a licensed therapist, but I am willing to adopt a mentoring model whenever
a person seems sufficiently free of emotional or psychological distress to
permit a concentrated quest for communion with the Divine, and commit to
an intensification
of various spiritual practices, such as meditation, yoga, and dream work.
Certainly, the spiritual journey can be a dark and rocky road, at times,
but if unresolved
emotional pain becomes a compelling focus, I will endeavor to assist you
in finding a good therapist who can see you face to face.
“
As a part of the inner life mentoring process, I am prepared to focus on several
areas of your spiritual journey, including:
-
your meditation and prayer life,
and ways to deepen it.
-
learning to recognize the stages and signposts
of spiritual unfoldment.
-
the importance of honoring the distress that
can arise in a genuine
search for meaning.
-
psychic and spiritual experiences that arise alongside
spiritual practice.
-
rituals that can enhance inner work.
-
dream incubation
and lucid dream
induction as ways to enter into spiritual communion on the dream level.
-
dream analysis as a way to understand your relationship with the Divine,
and the blocks
to deeper communion.
-
discerning your spiritual "calling."
“If we agree to work together,
I will mentor you by phone, e-mail and/or, if geographically possible,
in person from time to time. Please email me and
let me know what your goals are and why mentoring seems important
to you at this time. It would also be helpful to receive a dream or spiritual
experience that
might serve as an "introduction" to your inner self.
I will respond as soon as possible and let you know about my availability.”
