Now Complete
Jeffrey N. Howard of Wichita State University is currently researching
the rate of spontaneous remission of afflictions for those reviving from
a near-death experience, as compared to the general population. His intent
is to seek out near-death experiencers who have suddenly and miraculously
been "healed" or "lost their symptoms/afflictions" afterward
(conditions such as cancer, mental illness, physical defects, drug addiction,
tumors, and so forth). This is extremely important! Please participate
in his study if this applies to you!

CHANGE IN CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY:
The book, "Character
Strengths and Virtues: A Handbook and Classification," published
by Oxford University Press and the American Psychological Association,
2004, recommends significant changes in how clients are to be treated.
This book is the "DSM-1" of positive psychology in that it
focuses on the good life instead of disorders. "Positive Psychology" is
a new trend in counseling, one that has resulted in remarkable changes
in people - for the better.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Near-Death Experiences is
now out-of-print. I bought up a bunch of remaindered copies and so did
IANDS. That means anyone who wants a copy can still get one, until all
that we have are sold. Sometime soon I will receive reversion rights
to the book, which will tell me how much of it I can use in a rewrite/updating.
Once I know that, I will begin working on a bigger, better version (with
a different title, of course).
RIGHT NOW, all of you, give me some input. Is there something else you want
in the book that isn't there? Is there some additional material that should
be in it that isn't? What do you think I could do to make the book more valuable?
It was written to be a complete encyclopedia of the near-death phenomenon,
the experience and the aftereffects, as well as implications - positive/negative.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
FOR IMPORTANT RESEARCH
If you have had a near-death experience or other unexplained
experience, you are invited to be in communication with Dr. Bruce Greyson
and his team of researchers. Dr. Greyson would like to correspond with
as many NDErs as possible. The other researchers and their specialties
are listed below. When you respond, please send your name and postal
address and/or e-mail address. Accounts can be sent as well. If
not, they will ask for them later.
You can read about the research Dr. Greyson's team is doing on their website, www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/personalitystudies.
This research includes not only NDEs, but deathbed visions,
and other phenomena that suggest we may survive bodily death. Visit
the website and click on "Types of Experiences We Study" for an interesting
read. Then you can respond by contacting Dr. Greyson at (cbg4d@virginia.edu)
to report near-death experiences, or Dr. Jim Tucker (jbt8n@virginia.edu)
to report children with memories of previous lives, or Dr. Emily Kelly (ewc2r@virginia.edu)
to report any other experiences, such as apparitions, deathbed visions,
and communications from deceased loves ones.
Dr. Greyson's follow-up involves getting an account of the NDE itself,
supplemented by a rather detailed and comprehensive questionnaire that addresses
a lot of aspects people often don't think to include in their narrative accounts,
and finally a host of short questionnaires that address spirituality, attitudes,
and personality traits.
If you respond to Dr. Greyson or to anyone on his team, you can be assured
that everything you tell will be completely confidential. For example,
Dr. Greyson generally publishes only aggregate numbers (i. e., "x
percentage of experiencers report y phenomenon"), and selected anonymous
NDE accounts if they are particularly illustrative of certain points. He would
never include in any publication or presentation of his research any identifying
information, such as someone's age, location, etc. without their prior
written permission.
Dr. Bruce Greyson, M. D. is the Carlson Professor of Psychiatry in the Division
of Personality Studies of the Department of Psychiatric Medicine at the University
of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville. He has been studying near-death
experiences since 1975, when he worked with Raymond Moody, the psychiatrist
who coined the term, "near-death experience." Dr. Greyson was one
of the founders of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies),
and was its Research Director and President for many years. He has remained
the editor of IANDS' Journal of Near-Death Studies for the past 23 years, and
has published articles about NDEs in mainstream medical journals with the hope
of educating doctors and nurses about how common and how normal NDEs are.

Back to Beyond
the Light
George Rodonaia, M.D. died of a massive heart attack October
12th, en route to a Broadcasting Studio to be filmed about his near-death
experience. I knew George well; he was part of my research base and a
brief version of his story is in my book "Beyond the Light." I
say "brief" because what happened to George is beyond the scope
of books about the near-death phenomenon and could have easily been a
book unto itself. George was a vocal Soviet dissident during the time
when such a stance could get you killed. And that is exactly what happened
- he was assassinated by the KGB. Because his case was highly political,
an autopsy had to be performed. His corpse was stored in a freezer vault
for three days until then. He revived on the autopsy table as he was
being split open by the doctors, one of which was his own uncle. Of all
the cases I have investigated in my 26 years of work in the field, his
is the most dramatic, the longest, the most evidential, and the most
soul-stirring. Now our beloved George Rodonaia has returned "Home" to
stay. During the years afterward, he never failed to share his story
and to help others every way he could. My only regret is, he never wrote
his own book about his experience. Yet, perhaps he did, on everyone's
heart who ever heard him. Blessings, dear George, you will be missed.

"What the Bleep Do We Know?" --
the Movie
Please see the movie, "What
the Bleep Do We Know?" To say it is fantastic would be an
understatement. You may want to see it twice. The sum of what comes
from near-death experiences, death-bed visions, spiritual transformations,
and from the depths of the new sciences and what has been discovered
about the universe, is embraced in this film - and in a manner you
can grasp. This one film illuminates the entire territory. I found
myself smiling throughout, pleased that at last someone had made a
movie from "Future Memory." Parts of the movie are even word-for-word
from my book. No, I don't think they copied anything. I doubt that
anyone connected with the film had ever heard of me, but truth is truth,
no matter from whence it comes or by whom. Do see it. It is more than

Request for NDE participants
in astrological research...
I am a mature student at Kepler College in Seattle Washington, studying Astrological
Studies for my BA. I have had a certificate in Astrology since 1990 but am
not presently taking clients as a professional astrologer due to my work-load
as a student. As part of my astrological research, I am looking for those who
have had genuine NDE's and who are agreeable to giving me their birth data
(Time, Date, Place,) so that I can study the charts. I am looking for common
significators in the charts. I plan on researching this material and collating
the information from which I expect to write an expository paper.
In order to give anonymity I shall not use the names of
anyone who is involved, unless they expressly state that they do not
mind. Research should take me about a year, ending in the summer of 2005,
depending on participant response.

Tribute to Elisabeth
Kubler-Ross
I heard on the radio this morning that Elisabeth Kubler-Ross died on Tuesday,
August 24th. She was 78. As many of you know, Elisabeth was the one who told
me about the near-death experience and labeled me a "near-death survivor." I
had never heard of Raymond Moody nor his book. She was my first exposure to
the subject.
Our initial meeting was at the Mind Miraculous Symposium, held at the
Seattle Opera Center, in early November of 1977. Never before then
had I experienced
an individual who could transfix thousands of people just with her presence,
let alone what she had to say. No one had to tell you she was a giant who
would change the world. Her presence said that. I wanted so much
to meet her, and
did, the following year when I was at O'Hare Airport near Chicago at the
same time she was there, waiting around, because of a one-hour delay
on her flight
to Europe. I walked right up to her and introduced myself. For that entire
hour we cuddled up on a bench and chatted non-stop like a couple of school
girls. What she told me about the near-death experience was helpful, yet,
actually, I walked away with more questions than answers. That was
in August of 1978.
I began my research of near-death states that November.
I went on to have many dealings with Elisabeth. I attended the week-long
Death & Dying
Workshop she held at Shanti Nilaya, her ranch near Escondido, California
(the second one she ever held); was at one time her astrologer; and visited
her
many times at her place near Head Waters, Virginia. I came to know her fairly
well, and can say without hesitation that this incredible soul could see
inside the world soul, find what needed fixing, and devote her life to doing
just
that - righting a great wrong - the way we think, feel, and talk about death.
She made it okay to look at the dying and talk to them. She made death a
friend we would all someday meet and embrace and without fear. I loved her.
I suppose
just about everyone who knew her, loved her. Her faults are not worth mentioning;
what she sacrificed to help others is legendary.
Thank you Elisabeth for being born, growing up as you did, facing what you
faced, and doing the work you felt guided to do. And thank you for dying
the way that you did. I know you were angry for not dying sooner, but even
that,
the extra time you lingered, taught us. Thank you for your life. Thank you
for your death. It is my honor, my privilege, to have known you. God bless
you always wherever you may go in the otherworld realms you now inhabit.
You are a blessing, and you will always be alive, fresh in our memories,
active
in our hearts. PMH

Goddess Runes Playshop
I love to do Rune Casting Playshops, where
you learn how to make your own rune sets and cast with them. They
are so much fun! Sponsors are necessary to arrange and produce
these Playshops, and to cover my expenses and fees (will negotiate).
A large carpeted room is preferred, hopefully with several black
or white boards, and an easel or two. Players must provide their
own stones for the creation of a temporary set, way to mark them,
bag of some kind, and casting cloth. Most groups prefer to bring
me in the day before the Playshop, so that I can introduce Goddess
Runes and give a few demonstrations at an evening event....PMH

Abstract: In wrapping up my current research on child experiencers
of near-death states, it was necessary that I reevaluate my previous
work with adult experiencers. Doing this brought into focus three very
different types of subjective light that are consistently reported,
regardless of a person's age when the episode occurred. What this implies
may call for a reconsideration of "light" and "dark" in
accounts of near-death experiences.

"Children's Near-Death
States: New Research, A New Model"
Abstract: What is now regarded as classical near-death phenomenology
emerged from adult researchers interviewing adult experiencers. In
essence, it is an adult model by adults for adults. Explorations of
children's near-death states have used this same model; and, as a result,
have produced findings typical to standard literature in the field
- even though child experiencers, if given the opportunity, express
themselves differently than adults and respond to the aftereffects
in ways often at variance to that of adults. In 1994, I began cross-checking
my original work with near-death experiencers, focusing on those who
had their episode between the ages of birth and fifteen years. This
approach produced new research findings that suggest the need for a
new model, one that better addresses the actual patterning of near-death
states and the complexity of aftereffects - especially those that imply
a change or shift in brain/mind development.

On July 22nd a DVD will be released for the movie, FINAL DESTINATION
- PART II. Regardless of how you might feel about the R-rated
movie itself, you may want to buy the DVD version of the film
because of an extra documentary that accompanies it entitled "Cheating
Death: Beyond and Back."
Although the movie is violent and scary, the documentary is
just the opposite - the finest piece of work yet down on the
near-death experience. I know because I was privileged to be
one of the people interviewed for this production and have seen "Cheating
Death: Beyond and Back." It is only 20 minutes long, and
unfortunately cannot be purchased separately from the movie,
but anyone interested in the near-death phenomenon will want
this documentary. It is exceptional! --PMH
