BRAIN SHIFT: USING THE NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE AS A MODEL TO

EXPLORE THE TRANSFORMATION OF CONSCIOUSNESS

P.M.H.Atwater, L.H.D., Ph.D. (Hon.)

P.M.H.Atwater is one of the original researchers of the near-death experience, touted by Kenneth Ring as "one of the foremost authorities on the aftereffects." Many of her original findings have since been verified by professionals the likes of Melvin Morse, M.D., especially her theories about changes that might have occurred within the brain of experiencers. Using the police investigative techniques taught to her by her police-officer father, beginning when she was only nine years old, Atwater interviewed over 3,000 near-death survivors in a twenty-year search to examine the near-death experience from diverse points of view.

What is often overlooked is that Atwater, herself, experienced the near-death phenomenon three times within three months in 1977. Each episode was different, yet each seemed somehow to lead into the next. After reaching the level of all-knowing and of revelation during her third epi sode (typical of many experiencers), she was told by The Voice Like None Other: "Test revelation. You are to do the research. One book for each death." Books Two and Three were named, not the first one. She was told what was to be in each book, but not how to do it or what such research would entail. The agreement she made on the other side of death's curtain to do this work has fueled the passion so evident in her total commitment to research. She is now Second Vice President of the International Asso ciation For Near-Death Studies, and was instrumental in the establishment of the NDE Research Fund - a fund anyone can contribute to.

With a unique sensitivity to her subject and an infectious sense of humor, Atwater will present a broad overview of her work with the near death phenomenon, both the experience and its aftereffects, and how this compares with transformative states of consciousness. Students from all backgrounds will be able to explore psychological and physiological after effects and see for themselves how these may be indicative of structural, chemical, and functionary changes occurring within the brain/mind complex. Exploring the near-death experience and other transformative states as if they were "a brain shift," will give participants an opportunity to review their own lives and see if they, too, are shifting in a similar manner.

The workshop is in three parts: a fresh, new examination of the near death experience, a look at the phenomenon of remembering the future, plus an exploration of brain shifts using fourteen charts to depict how trans formations of consciousnesss may indeed be the "engine of evolution."

Please note: Recommended for professionals and health-care providers, or anyone wishing to better understand possible consequences of choosing a more spiritual lifestyle or undergoing transformative states of conscious ness. Reading Atwater's books in advance will be helpful but not neces sary. Come with an open heart and a questioning mind and be prepared for surprises .
